SportsAid beneficiaries had huge success at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with 186 medals - 57 gold, 59 silver and 70 bronze - won across 20 sports.
The charity’s recipients contributed to 68% of the podium finishes delivered by the Home Nations during 11 days of world-class action. Track and field saw the best return for SportsAid athletes with 40 medals celebrated at the Alexander Stadium. Swimming was the next most productive sport with 39 podium finishes.
There were 474 beneficiaries of the charity’s support competing in Birmingham with 14 medals claimed by current awardees, including gold for para sprinter Emmanuel Oyinbo-Coker, para triathlete Katie Crowhurst and rhythmic gymnast Marfa Ekimova, and a further five podium finishes for three previous winners of SportsAid’s annual One-to-Watch Award - Alex Yee, Courtney Tulloch and Jodie Williams.
