SportsAid seeking to appoint Head of Fundraising

SportsAid is looking to appoint a Head of Fundraising to lead the charity’s work in developing new income and resources to help talented young athletes.

SportsAid has provided financial help and recognition to British sports people since 1976. The charity was the major funding source for most of the country’s top athletes until the arrival of National Lottery support in 1997. SportsAid’s role changed to focusing on talented young athletes and this remains the case today with over 1,000 emerging sports stars receiving awards each year.

The charity has a rich history having supported many of the country’s most successful athletes at a crucial time in their personal and sporting development. The importance of SportsAid’s role was further re-affirmed last summer when 141 medals were won for Team GB and ParalympicsGB across the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games by previous recipients of the charity’s help.

Reporting directly to, and working closely with, the charity’s Chief Executive, the Head of Fundraising will lead a review and refresh of SportsAid’s fundraising strategy and have responsibility to develop and grow fundraising income from new and existing partners and other revenue sources. This is a senior position with some managerial responsibility that requires significant, relevant experience.

This is an exciting role directly connected to the purpose and passion of the charity’s work and a rare opportunity to join a committed and driven team. It will require a passion to help young people, an interest in sport, a good understanding of the charity sector and strong interpersonal skills. The role is based in central London with a national brief.

The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for the development and implementation of all aspects of the charity’s fundraising and revenue generation activities, including:

  • Ensure the charity is making the most of its assets, especially in developing new corporate partners

  • Develop SportsAid’s major donor programme

  • Lead and manage SportsAid’s fundraising and partnerships team

You will have significant fundraising experience (at least five years) with a strong track-record and demonstrable success in securing new revenue on a large scale and in developing long-term partnerships, especially with the corporate sector. Leading the team, you will also be confident implementing and developing fundraising strategy, working with other internal and external stakeholders to deliver income generation growth and will have the ability to monitor and report progress. You will have excellent organisational and presentation skills and will be an effective communicator with lots of enthusiasm.
