The third annual SportsAid Week saw another magnificent fundraising effort from the charity’s supporters generate over £55,000 to provide backing to the next generation of British sporting talent. The initiative has now raised close to £150,000 since it first took place in 2016 to mark the charity’s 40th anniversary. Next year’s dates have already been announced for 23-29 September as SportsAid Week.

The Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup 2018 is in full flow with over 100,000 fans expected to visit the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre throughout the tournament. The demand for tickets is further proof of the growing popularity of the sport across the nation following the London 2012 Olympic Games and Team GB’s gold medal success in Rio four years later. The increase in participation figures make for particularly pleasant reading too.

Rower Holly Dunford, 18, from Tadworth in Surrey, was named as the winner of SportsAid’s prestigious One-to-Watch Award by five-time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds OBE at the charity’s annual SportsBall yesterday evening (23 November). She received the award after a sensational year which saw her win gold for Great Britain at the World Junior Rowing Championships with Zoe Adamson in the women’s double.
