SportsAid Week 2019

SportsAid Week is returning in 2019 for a fourth consecutive year! Monday 23 September to Sunday 29 September are the confirmed dates. What will you do to support the next?

Judoka Kelly Petersen-Pollard is starting to make her mark at senior level after recently being crowned British champion in the -70kg category. The Hardy Spicer Judo Club member is heading into her final year as a junior in 2019 and has set her sights on the Junior European Championships and the Junior World Championships before looking to plot her path towards her Olympic dream.

The inaugural #MyMiles Schools Challenge made a real mark during SportsAid Week 2018 and the European Week of Sport as schoolchildren were inspired to #BeActive and show their support for the future of British sport. SportsAid has seen increased engagement from schools this year and there have been a number of outstanding fundraising efforts promoting the charity and the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.

SportsAid's Athlete of the Month - Charlotte Bardsley, 16, from Stourbridge

Table tennis prodigy Charlotte Bardsley made an immediate impression on her senior England debut as she helped her country top their European Championships qualification group with a stunning victory over Greece’s Konstantina Paridi. The 16-year-old brushed her more experienced opponent aside in three straight sets to follow up fine wins by Tin-Tin Ho and Maria Tsaptsinos and secure England's passage to the next stage.

With the help of SportsAid, I did my thing. I didn’t come from a wealthy family, and there were times when I thought ‘I need a job’ but I stuck to my swimming. Thankfully it did pay off. It's about gambling and making sacrifices. I put a high risk in myself and invested the time in what was going to make the difference to my swimming.
