Susannah Gill crowned women's champion at World Marathon Challenge 2019
07 Feb 2019

SportsAid fundraiser Susannah Gill has won the women's title at the World Marathon Challenge after completing seven marathons across seven continents in seven days. Susannah, who was one of only two British competitors in the field, set a new world record in the process. The challenge saw her travel 55,000 miles as she overcame courses in Antarctica, Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Madrid, Santiago and Miami.

The Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 will see a ground-breaking landmark reached in the history of the world’s greatest marathon as fundraising from the event tops £1 billion. SportsAid was the first official charity of the London Marathon back in 1984 and is proudly backing the #ThanksaBillion campaign as nearly 40 runners get set to raise money to support the next generation of British athletes on Sunday 28 April 2019.

Golf prodigy Lily May Humphreys has been given a major boost at the start of the 2019 season after receiving an invitation to play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The three-day championship was announced at last year’s Masters and will see Lily competing in a field of 72. She is the second-highest ranked English amateur female player in the world and previously made the shortlist for SportsAid’s One-to-Watch Award.

With the help of SportsAid, I did my thing. I didn’t come from a wealthy family, and there were times when I thought ‘I need a job’ but I stuck to my swimming. Thankfully it did pay off. It's about gambling and making sacrifices. I put a high risk in myself and invested the time in what was going to make the difference to my swimming.
