SportsAid Ready to Help Herts Winners
On Monday 30th April 2007, Hertfordshire Sports Partnership launched its ‘Ready for Winners’ commitment with SportsAid at the University of Hertfordshire. An innovative collaboration to ensure the right young athletes in the county are helped at the right time. Also on the night, sports people from across the county attended the 2007 Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sport Awards to celebrate the commitment and success of sports volunteers who help others to take part sport in their local community.
Often unrecognised and rarely rewarded, sports volunteers across the county will give hundreds of hours to make sport happen in every corner of Hertfordshire. These unsung hero’s and heroines are the driving force behind sport in the community.
Graham Keen, Sports Project Officer from the Herts Sports Partnership said: “Through the Service to Sport Awards, the Herts Sports Partnership rewards coaches, officials, administrators and sports clubs that deserve recognition for their time, effort and commitment to sport. This may simply be by giving their time and talents to enable others to participate in sport, or by helping an individual or team achieve a specific goal.”
Tim Lawler, SportsAid CEO, said:
“I’m excited about this announcement. It’s a very sound decision combining the ambition of the Hertfordshire Sports Partnership to help emerging local talent and the skills and experience of SportsAid in sourcing the nominations and administering the grants.”
He continued “No one is reinventing the wheel and both parties recognize what the other can contribute, ultimately for the benefit of the young sportspeople in the county.”
The 'Ready for Winners' awards with SportsAid will help young, talented athletes to meet the costs of pursuing their sport, such as competition fees, accommodation, travel costs and equipment. SportsAid also has over 30 years worth of experience in engaging with the commercial sector to benefit British sport and will be looking to bring this to bear in the new partnership.
