Athletes Celebrate 20 12 Day
Posted on 27 Jan 2010
Athletes supported by SportsAid partner Asda celebrated 20 12 Day (20th December 2009) with Roger Black and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson by getting involved in the ‘View Tube’ community project situated next to the Olympic Park site in London.
The View Tube is a social enterprise and community venue located on The Greenway adjacent to the Olympic Park. The athletes helped the SportsAid alumni and volunteers from the Wildlife Trust clear dead wood, brambles and sycamore seedlings before reseeding the area and planting trees and plants which will be fully grown by 2012.
Asda's Head of Community, Fiona Campbell-Reilly, was on hand to help the athletes, Roger and Dame Tanni at the View Tube project. She said “The London Wildlife Trust is creating a fantastic resource for the 2012 Olympics and with Asda Sporting Chance athletes hopeful to compete in future Games, it was fitting that they were able to join Roger and Dame Tanni for the day.”
