ASDA Offer Sporting Chance for SportsAid Athletes
Posted on 14 Aug 2008
ASDA’s Sporting Chance initiative, in partnership with SportsAid, was launched earlier this year and has been making a real difference to young sports stars across the country.Ambassador for the scheme and SportsAid alumni Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson met with some of the athletes who have benefited from Sporting Chance in the North East recently including fencer Alexander Craig, judo ace Holly Fielding, wrestler Marcus Sudro, tae kwon do Champion Ben Shaw and diver Joshua Dowd.
Athletes on the scheme have been meeting with their local ASDA stores to share their stories of achievement, what it is like to be a talented athlete and what their hopes and dreams are for the future.
Many will benefit from additional fundraising carried out by their store which will help to cover costs they incur when training and competing at a high level such as equipment, travel and accommodation.
In addition to support of talented athletes, ASDA’s Sporting Chance will give thousands of youngsters across the UK access to free sporting sessions in school holidays for the next five years. Each session will be completely free and is designed to help families keep children both entertained and active during the holidays. To book a place, pick up a voucher in-store and visit www.asda-sportingchance.co.uk.
