SportsAid stars represent Britain at IWAS Junior World Games
The majority of the 18-strong GB team competing at the IWAS Junior World Games in the Czech Republic, which enters its final day today, are recipients of SportsAid awards.
One of the stand-out performances so far has been from Holly Neill, who on Sunday won a bronze medal in the women’s javelin – an event she has only come to relatively recently.
The Games are recognised by UK Athletics as a major stepping stone in the development of senior international IWAS Class athletes and the team’s selection focuses on potential medal contenders for the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.
Before the Games – which include athletics and swimming events – shot and discuss thrower Holly Neill, who has also previously competed in Equestrian events, told SportsAid:
“Firstly I would like to thank SportsAid for funding me this season, the money has been a great help in my travelling and competition fees. I still cannot believe how much of a success this season has been so far, and being asked to represent my nation for the IWAS World Junior Games is fantastic.”
Support for Holly’s SportsAid award comes from the charity’s new partnership with John Lewis at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol.

About us

SportsAid, previously known as SportsAid Foundation (SAF), was founded in 1976. Its principal function was to raise funds from the private sector to provide financial assistance to Britain's amateur sportsmen and women. The aim was to help them prepare for competitions against better-funded, overseas athletes.
