Rising Star: Oliver Rossi

Age: 17 Sport: Cycling From: Ilford

Meet the national junior 10-mile time-trial champion: 17-year-old cyclist Oliver Rossi.

While British cyclists - including SportsAid legends Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish - have found it tough at times during the recent Tour de France, Oliver has excelled in his competitions.

Adding to his recent sprint victory, he’s had a clutch of top ten finishes this year, including sixth place at the national road race championships in Wales and second place in the Tom Simpson Junior Road race on June 20.

Supporting him through this has been a £1,000 award from SportsAid funded by clearing house LCH Clearnet through the East London Business Alliance Partnership.

“The award was extremely well timed, “Oliver said. “I have to replace my road frame as soon as possible.

“I’d like to thank SportsAid London and LCH Clearnet of the East London Business Alliance very much for their generous support which has really made a difference.”

According to British Cycling, his sport’s national governing body, Oliver is developing well. Already among the UK’s top five youth cyclists in 2009, he is now showing the potential to progress to the Olympic Development Programme.

Oliver competes in two of the four Olympic cycling disciplines: road and track racing.

He has been supported by SportsAid since 2008.
