Oldham takes gold and silver at Youth Olympics
Gymnast Sam Oldham has won gold and silver medals at the world’s first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this week.
Sam, who has been supported by SportsAid won his silver medal on the pommel horse on Saturday and gave a flawless routine on the horizontal bar a day later to win gold.
“I am so pleased to have got a gold medal,” Sam said on Sunday. “I never thought about changing my routine and I just wanted to concentrate on getting it absolutely right, and I did, so I am delighted.”
Twenty-six SportsAid athletes have been in action for Team GB at the Games, which come to a close tomorrow, and like Sam many have gone on to win medals, including:
- David Bolarinwa, who won a bronze medal in the men’s 100m and silver in the men’s continental medley relay
- Ellie Faulkner, who won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m freestyle
- Charlie Grice, who won a bronze medal in the men’s 1,000m
- Carian Scudamore, who won a gold medal in the equestrian team jumping
- Georgia Howard-Merrill and Fiona Gammond who won a gold medal in the women's pair
- Oliver Golding, who won a gold medal in the boys doubles
- Jade Jones, who won a gold medal in taekwondo U55kg
- Rachael Kelly, who won a bronze medal in the women's 100m butterfly
