Hayley Willis, 16, wins senior British judo title
SportsAid-funded judoka Hayley Willis continued her fine run of form on January 22 by winning the under-48kg category at the senior British judo championships in Sheffield.
Her victory ‘stunned the field’ according to British judo, coming as it did just a day after she’d won the junior title.
Last year Hayley won a bronze medal at the junior world championships and is the youngest member of British Judo’s Olympic squad for 2012, from which the members of Team GB will be chosen later this year.
British Judo’s performance director Daniel Lascau said: "I'm happy because some of the Olympic Squad confirmed their places while others now know they need to work even harder.
“I’m very pleased with Hayley Willis because she confirmed her ability at this level after winning the junior title on Saturday and she’s a very good judoka,” he added.
SportsAid has supported Hayley every year since 2008 with her latest SportsAid Award of £1,000 coming from the East London Business Alliance.

About us

SportsAid, previously known as SportsAid Foundation (SAF), was founded in 1976. Its principal function was to raise funds from the private sector to provide financial assistance to Britain's amateur sportsmen and women. The aim was to help them prepare for competitions against better-funded, overseas athletes.
