Deloitte runners raise

More than 1,000 runners from Deloitte raised £111,500 for aspiring athletes like Louise Hunt at the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge this month.

“It was a privilege to be part of the team,” said Deloitte’s John Kerr after the event. “We are delighted to be able to contribute to SportsAid, who do such great work, and it was a real thrill for our people that the athletes came to support and stayed to meet the team.”

Deloitte is the official Disability Sport Partner for SportsAid’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) programme – a partnership that has enabled SportsAid to double the number of disability athletes it supports through TASS.

“The TASS Award has helped me enormously,” said Louise, one of the UK’s top wheelchair tennis players. “I am 18 years old and was born with a disability called spina bifida. I travel all over the world to compete in around 10-15 tennis tournaments a year, including places like Brazil, Israel and Europe.

“This is very expensive so the support makes a big difference. I am currently ranked 20th in the world and last year as a junior finished the season with a world ranking of three. As you can see every penny will make a real difference – so thank you so much for your support.

At the Corporate Challenge the Deloitte team competed in a 5.6km road race cheered on by Louise and fellow TASS recipients David Hill (disability swimming), Liam O’Reilly (wheelchair tennis), Tim Farr (disability skiing) and Aaron Simmonds (wheelchair basketball). Top spot for Deloitte went to Jane Evans who came fourth overall with a time of 20 minutes, 19 seconds; while Jeff Cunningham was Deloitte’s fastest man finishing fourteenth in 18 minutes, 14 seconds.

“One of the things about Deloitte that constantly amazes me is the level of commitment shown by our people to raising money for good causes,” added John Kerr.
