The Sporting Chance initiative, through which ASDA supports hundreds of SportsAid athletes in the UK, has just won the top prize at the Marketing Society Northern Awards.

In addition to the ‘Grand Prix’ they also took the award for Sport and Sportswear, beating the England football team’s away kit into second place.

“The Grand Prix Award was for the best overall campaign in the North,” said Sarah Dennis from Savvy, who work for ASDA on the project. “We were really proud to get it.

“We’d like to thank everyone at SportsAid for all their hard work, it was a combined effort and a great result.”

One of the rising stars benefiting from ASDA’s Sporting Chance project recently found out she is one of 40 British athletes going to the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Amy Radford, a 16-year-old fencer, is partnered with Asda’s Brierley Hill store and after hearing the news wrote on her blog:

“It’s official, after my last 8 performance at the World Championships, I’m going to the first ever Youth Olympic Games :D Sooooooo excited and really looking forward meeting other athletes and taking in the atmosphere of the Olympics – Just hope that I fence well!”
