26 SportsAid stars at Youth Olympics

Of the 40-strong GB squad travelling to Singapore for the Youth Olympic Games next month, 26 are recipients of SportsAid awards.

This will be the first ever Youth Olympic Games, which takes place in Singapore from August 14-26. SportsAid’s chief executive, Tim Lawler, said:

“With more than 60% of the athletes recognised and helped by SportsAid, it’s another unequivocal endorsement that our close partnership with the national governing bodies of sport to support their up-and-coming talent is helping the right athletes at the right time.

“The Youth Olympics is a new initiative from the IOC and it is likely that these first few years will see some changes as it becomes part of the international sporting landscape, but to see so many SportsAid recipients being given the chance to experience the competition from outset is exciting.”

Support for SportsAid athletes heading for Singapore – including famous names like diver Tom Daley and junior 400m champion Victoria Ohuruogu – comes from Arup, ASDA, East London Business Alliance, GDF Suez, GLL Sport Foundation, Jaguar, Lloyds TSB and OCS.
