Entire Team GB table tennis team supported by SportsAid

22 May, 2012

All six members of Great Britain's table tennis team for the London 2012 Olympic Games have had support from SportsAid, we are proud to confirm today.

This takes the total number of SportsAid athletes and alumni in Team GB to 68 (out of 107).

In the men's team, Andrew Baggaley, Paul Drinkhall (pictured) and Liam Pitchford have all received SportsAid awards during their careers while in the women's team Joanna Parker and Kelly Sibley have received SportsAid awards and Na Liu has been supported by the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, which SportsAid manages on behalf of UK Sport.

In the official announcement on May 22, Team GB Chef de Mission Andy Hunt said, “Both the male and female teams include a good balance of youth and experience. The likes of Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford have demonstrated great potential at junior level, which bodes well for the future of British table tennis."

Paul Drinkhall added, “It’s a great achievement to be selected for Team GB. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in a home Games. I can only guess how it will feel but it’s a fantastic opportunity."

Congratulations to all the athletes.
