SportsAid helps the next generation of British sports stars by giving them financial support and recognition during the critical early stages of their careers.
There will be a strong SportsAid presence at next month’s World Para Athletics Championships in London with 37 members of the 51-strong team having received support from the charity during their careers. Sprint sensations Richard Whitehead and Jonnie Peacock are among the vast SportsAid alumni set for action at the London Stadium as they get ready to return to the scene of their first Paralympic successes five years ago.
British sporting heroes Ellie Simmonds OBE and Lutalo Muhammad have thrown their support behind SportsAid Week 2017 by signing up to be official ambassadors of this year’s initiative. Ellie and Lutalo, who both received a helping hand from SportsAid at the beginning of their careers, are giving their backing to the fundraising drive, taking place from 25 September to 1 October, designed to support the next generation of athletes.
Miriam Pritchard says she would 'love to be part of the Great Britain squad in the future' after making her senior debut for England Hockey earlier this month. The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for Oxford Hawks and considers Maddie Hinch to be her role model, completed two halves during the three-match series against Spain and feels she has gained ‘extra motivation’ following the experience.
