Alana Walker

Alana is an exceptional disability athlete from Allerton in Bradford and competes with great success in the discus. In the 2009 season she increased her personal best throw by 2.15m in discus and broke the CP U20 national record twice.

Alana attended her first regional CP event in year 7. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience and has been training and competing since.

Over the past couple of years, she has put 6 metres onto her discus PB, posting a very creditable 16m 54. Her technique and fitness level have been looked at and worked on resulting in significant progress.

She is ranked 2nd in the U20 age group in the UK in her first year in this age group. She is determined to make the GB squad for the Paralympic Games in 2012.

Alana currently trains at Halifax once a week and has a throwing pad in the field at the back of her parent’s house too. She goes to a gym twice a week. As well as her training commitments, she attends college full time.

She is currently supported by City of Bradford MDC through the SportsAid b active Sporting Excellence Programme, which allows her to access increased funding, elite level sports science services, and she also has her own blog on the Sporting Excellence website, which can be found at www.sportsaidbactive.co.uk
